Change Management Issues in Franchising Companies

Author: Lance Winslow

Change management issues in franchising companies can be critical and crucial. Consider if you will the district manager or regional representative who helps franchisees and makes sure they are in fact all holding up the confidential operations manual and guidelines of the franchising company.

You can imagine how important this is because the franchisors brand is riding on the quality and consistency of each and every outlet that the franchisor has. During change management the franchisee who had a relationship with the regional representative all at once and suddenly has to get to know a new person.

Unfortunately the new regional representative or district manager is very busy learning ropes and trying to meet all the different franchisees who constantly need assistance and guidance in their franchise operations. These franchisees need to be able to clarify things in the marketplace and understand the new promotions going on, as well as clarification of all the rules that the franchisor has set out.

If one of the regional representatives was lax in enforcing the franchise standards in the confidential operations manual and the new person comes and like a hawk and enforces every little minute detail then this can cause friction in the franchise system overall.

The franchising companies gather their strength through economies of scale with every one working together. If that synergy breaks down from within all is lost in the economies of scale or wasted. This is one reason why change management issues in franchising companies is so vitally important to the health of the franchising company. Consider all this in 2006.
