Testing Honey Bees and the Affects of Sound

Author: Lance Winslow

Bees do a lot of buzzing dont they? And we are not sure why they do this, but it seems to be more than just because their wings flap at 230 beats per second. And it is for this reason that at least one online think tank took up the subject to try to figure out why this is. One think tank member Warren states;

I know you have been in a movie theater where the THX sound avalanche is presented. I want to see what a bee does when exposed to sound a complete spectrum sound range, above and below human hearing capabilities, and in the other dimension, of power level. That is where the sound laboratories come in.

Yes and I have considered the use of this technology to control human emotion of movie goers for a more enlightening experience;

Now I would assume all this has already been done by the US Military, as they have tested the use of Bees along with the DOE to monitor Nuclear Storage containers, where the bees go and take a look and fly back. The reward perhaps is flowers, nectar and such along with the use of sound. Bees have also been used with explosives to monitor and test. I would be completely surprised if all this work was not already done, as I do not consider the US Military to be filled with morons. But incase no one has done this study yet, well you bet I agree that it should be done.

We should commit further funding to the study of bee colonies and bee swarms and their use of sound to carry our their tasks. It makes a lot of sense to figure out all we can as to how and why they use sound. We can help our agriculture in increased pollination, as well as prevent killer bee attacks so do consider all this in 2006.
